Professional Beauty magazine subscription holders should expect to see mood and sleep-related beauty featuring heavily in 2010.
According to the publication, Mintel has released its predicted global beauty trends for the new year and suggested that the industry could be completely different to that seen this year.
It believes that old trends will evolve from the "austerity chic" of 2009 to something new and exciting come January.
"While 2009 brought its challenges for the industry, beauty brands and suppliers have continued to seek creative new ways to merge science, nature and sustainability for better results and more eco-friendly formulas and packaging," said Mintel beauty innovation director Nica Lewis.
Mood-enhancing makeup and skincare are likely to be in vogue in the next 12 months, while the idea of beauty sleep is set to be re-worked with new products, Mintel revealed.
Meanwhile, Professional Beauty magazine also reported that the American Academy of Dermatology is set to phase out its seal of recognition for sunscreens.
