Diamond Jubilee Tour gets well underway

The Queen and her companions make a great start with the Diamond Jubille tour of The UK.

If you’re a big fan of the Royals then no doubt you’ve been keeping track of them over the past week – especially if you have a HELLO! magazine subscription, as it’s always the first with big news.

The Royal family have kicked off their tour of the UK in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this year, starting in Leicester where the crowds turned up to see the Queen, Prince Philip and the Duchess of Cambridge.

The city had prepared by putting up 10,000 yards of bunting and filling the train station with banners featuring the specially designed Diamond Jubilee logo, to give the family a warm welcome. The crowd stood 10 people deep to greet them, before the Queen went off to visit the rest of the city.

Monday was Commonwealth Day so the Queen had another big day as she attended a special service at Westminster Abbey, as well as the evening reception. She was joined by daughters-in-law the Countess of Wessex and the Duchess of Cornwall.

The service celebrated the different cultures across the commonwealth and the Queen – who is the most well-travelled monarch in history – is keen to stress the importance of diversity. She said: " 'Connecting Cultures' is our Commonwealth theme this year, it encourages us to consider the special opportunities we have, as members of this unique gathering of nations, to celebrate an extraordinary cultural tapestry. "Our circumstances and surroundings may vary enormously, for example in the food we eat and the clothes we wear, but we share one humanity, and this draws us all together".

So today marks the end of the first week of her 4 month tour. We’re looking forward to the rest of the celebrations and those of you with a HELLO! magazine subscription will have access to all the news, gossip and photos along the way.
