Nick Clegg apologises for tuition fee increase Those of you with a Newsweek magazine subscription will know that many Liberal Democrat supporters have long been disappointed with deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg since he joined forces with Conservative leader David Cameron back in 2009. One of Clegg’s promises to voters was that he wouldn’t allow the cost of tuition fees to rise, however students now have to pay up to £9,000 a year – almost tripling the previous cost.
Nick Clegg has now made a video statement apologising for any disappointment and justifying his actions. We’re not sure how much damage control this will provide, but it’s certainly provided entertainment online – it’s already been turned into a song and gone viral!
Clegg has been able to see the funny side of the video and after jokes that the song should be made into a single, he tweeted “Permission granted, but all proceeds to Sheffield Children's Hospital please.”
We think it’s a great idea!
