Marie Claire magazine subscription holders may be interested to know that one of the publication's senior staff members has been chosen for a special role by a national newspaper.

Fashion director Jayne Pickering has been selected as a judge in the Observer Ethical Awards 2010 - a role which reflects her interest in ethical fashion.

Ms Pickering has worked with the magazine since 2002 after Marie Claire editor Marie O'Riordan recognised her talents.

Previous to this, she worked in fashion PR before a move to Vogue magazine 18 years ago.

There she spent 14 years, successfully working her way up to the post of senior fashion editor, before leaving to go freelance.

She worked with US Glamour magazine as well as a range of other publications before taking up her role with Marie Claire, where she is said to be "an inspiration" to its readers and staff, according to the Observer.

Other judging panel members include T4 presenter Rick Edwards and TV presenter Ben Fogle.
