Total Film has picked up on hints that director Bryan Singer could be involved in the making of X-Men 4.

With Singer currently signed up to direct X-Men: First Class, the magazine has speculated that he could be set to follow that up with a continuation of the story left hanging in the third movie.

Talking to Hero Complex, the director hinted that he and Hugh Jackman have been discussing a project, but refused to confirm whether this would be a fourth X-Men or a follow-up to X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

In the same interview, both Singer and producer Lauren Shuler Donner alluded to the possibility of an X4, with the latter suggesting that "it's totally different [from First Class] and will be so interesting for you".

While X-Men, X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand followed a linear story, X-Men Origins: Wolverine took a step back to the story that led Jackman's character to the position he found himself in at the beginning of the first movie.

It is believed that First Class will look at the formation of Professor Xavier's school for mutants and the breakdown of his relationship with friend-turned-foe Magneto.
