Huck magazine travelled to Brighton this week for the Tony Hawk & Friends European Skateboarding tour.
It was the event's only date in the UK and saw the likes of Kevin Staab, Jesse Fritsch and Sandro Dias show off their skills in front of a large crowd.
Old school skater Dave Duncan provided a running commentary and kept onlookers entertained with him MCing and Hawk explained that the tour is all about promoting the sport.
He told Huck magazine that such presentations are about showing skateboarding at its top level, giving people something to aspire to and a reason to get into it.
The events often see people who have never been exposed to the sport taking an interest and this can only be a good thing, he added.
"The people who are more into the underground, hardcore side of skating will always have that and could care less about what we do," Hawk admitted.
However, he noted that skating is big enough to accommodate many different factions and that the pros are always so happy to be able to make a living from doing what they love.
Tony Hawk is one of skateboarding's most recognisable faces and has a series of video games named after him, as well as numerous skate film credits to his name.
