The 30-year-old Social Network star revealed he still cannot talk about his ex-girlfriend, A-Team actress Jessica Biel, because their split is still "hurtful" for him.
He told Vanity Fair magazine he wanted to protect what he shared with her "until somebody shows me what would be more fulfilling at this point".
The popstar, who in the past dated Cameron Diaz, said he isn't sure whether he would want to get married in the future, but he knows he wants children.
JT, whose new film Bad Teacher is due to hit UK cinema screens on June 24th, told Vanity Fair magazine: "I think that my generation looks at marriage differently."
The star also opened up about his high-profile three-year romance with Britney Spears, which finished back in 2002.
He told Vanity Fair magazine: "There was nothing normal about our existence... We spent way too much time being the biggest thing for teenyboppers."
