Amanda Holden on her affair and babies

Amanda Holden chats to Good Housekeeping about Neil Morrissey, her traumatic births and her love for the NHS.

Amanda Holden has definitely been through the ringer over the past couple of years, after losing one baby in a premature labour and almost losing her life as she gave birth to her daughter, however she’s learned to deal with life’s struggles in the eye of the media for years.

The actress speaks to Good Housekeeping magazine’s November issue about her infamous affair with actor Neil Morrissey whilst married to Les Dennis.

“I don’t believe women have affairs for no reason,” she says. “Women don’t seek sex – we seek love and affirmation. If a woman has an affair, there is normally a problem in their marriage. Neil rightly or wrongly got loads of stick.”

However, after finding happiness with husband Chris and one healthy daughter came more heartbreak. Speaking about the loss of her son, she says: “To know that your baby might not come out alive is incomprehensible. Hopefully someone will read this and take a bit of hope from it because there was a happy ending for me. A lot of women don’t have that – I was very lucky. We called our son Theo. He was nearly 3lbs, which is bigger than some babies in the prem ward. Chris and I were very private and we grieved at night. We went to bed and we talked and talked. Chris never cried. I did all the crying," she added.

After a period of grief, she decided to try again and daughter Hollie was born though both the pregnancy and birth itself were very difficult and the baby was placed in the special care unit while Holden recovered. She is very thankful to all the NHS staff who helped her.

"When a nurse brushed my hair, I started crying – it was the most tender, loving thing after being bashed around so much," Amanda told the magazine. "That’s why I am so pro the NHS. The people in intensive care who looked after me were incredible."
