Ah, the bacon butty... one of us Brits’ most treasured culinary treats. Whether you put your in white bread, brown bread, a baguette, a roll, butter or no butter, red sauce or brown sauce – it’s hard to resist that smell.
If you have an olive magazine subscription, you may be aware that they recently started the search to find the country’s best bacon butty. In the homemade category, the winner was Rosemary Sheehan from Nottingham whose sandwich includes peanut butter, mayonnaise, onion and Kingsmill bread.
As for cafés, you can find the very best at Bolster Moor Farm Shop in Golcar, Huddersfield. Niove Armitage – who nominated the shop - wins a night in the Pig-in-the-Wall B&B in Southampton.
Other delicious bacon sandwiches of note can be found at Blues Café in London and The Perky Peacock in York.
