Sleeping 'can help you lose weight'

Scientists from Portland, US, found people who were trying to lose weight benefited from having reduced stress levels and moderate nights' sleep.

Dr Neil Stanley, from the British Sleep Society, told Marie Claire magazine experts have been aware of the link between sleep and weight loss for some time now.

"We've always had the 'eat less, move more' mantra, but there is a growing body of evidence that we also need to sleep well," he explained to the publication.

Dr Stanley also told Marie Claire magazine the problem is, if people are feeling stressed, they are far more likely to cheer themselves up with a chocolate bar.

According to a recent poll by the Economic and Social Research Council, three in five Britons take as long as 30 minutes to fall asleep.
