Those of you with a Total Film magazine subscription will have definitely heard of The Hunger Games by now – in fact, anyone with eyes should have heard of it by now. Adverts for the film have been posted at tube stations, on billboards and on the sides of buses for weeks now, along with special promotions everywhere you look.
The film comes out tomorrow, Friday 23rd March and is touted to be the “next Twilight” – not by its subject matter which is certainly a lot darker than the vampire saga, but it has that same young adult, obsessive-like quality about it.
What some of you may not know is that the movie is based on the book trilogy by Suzanne Collins and we’re big fans of the books here in the iSUBSCRiBE office – so much so that we have tickets to a special screening of the movie this evening.
We don’t want to give too much away about the storyline, but the gist is that in a barbaric, post-apocalyptic world called Panem, children between the ages of 12 and 18 are chosen to take part in a fatal type of reality TV show called The Hunger Games where only one can survive – the story follows Katniss Everdeen who finds herself as one of this year’s “Tributes”.
We definitely can’t wait to see how well the transition from the page to the big screen is made, but knowing that it received 4 out of 5 stars and a pretty stellar review from Total Film, we’re sure we’re going to love it – and it’s already been confirmed that there are three more films to follow.
