Radio Times launch poll to find nation’s favourite children’s TV character

Radio Times have teamed up with BFI to find out who the nation's favourite children TV character is.

If you have a Radio Times magazine subscription then you’ll have seen that in this week’s the editors of the magazine want to discover what the nation’s favourite children’s television show character is by launching a reader poll.

The RT team have joined forces with the British Film Institute compiled a shortlist of 50 beloved shows, spanning seven decades – from the 1950s to 2011.

The editor of Radio Times Ben Preston says: “It’s the easiest way to guess a person’s age without risk of embarrassment. Ask their favourite children’s TV character. For me, it was Mr Benn, for obvious reasons. Nothing dates us more reliably than naming those children’s characters who first seized our imagination. With the help of learned folk from the BFI, we’ve put together a 50-strong shortlist of much-loved BBC children’s characters, an excellent excuse for an excursion down memory lane. Now we’d like you to pick the nation’s favourite – enjoy!”

The poll closes on 30th June, so head over to the Radio Times website to cast your vote.
