The biggest buzz of course is the battle of the icons – Maggie vs. Marilyn. Both Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams have been nominated for the Academy Award for Actress in a Leading Role and are the critics’ top picks to win. Other nominees for the category are Glenn Close for Albert Nobbs, Viola Davis for The Help and Rooney Mara for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Up for Actor in a Leading Role are Demian Bichir for A Better Life, George Clooney for The Descendants, Jean Dujardin for The Artist, Gary Oldman for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Brad Pitt for Moneyball.

Of course, everyone really wants to know who is up for Best Picture, and this year’s nominees are The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Help, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life and War Horse.

Hugo is currently in the nominations lead with 11 nominations in total, closely followed by The Artist which has 10. The awards will be held on Sunday 26th February at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood and only time will tell who will be the biggest winner on the night.
