Louis Walsh calls Ronan Keating a karaoke singer

Louis Walsh talks to The Times magazine about Ronan Keating's career and the death of Stephen Gately.

The X Factor is back on this weekend and everyone’s talking about Sharon Osbourne’s return – a she’s usually pretty outspoken. However, in his recent interview with The Times magazine, it’s Louis Walsh who is making controversial comments.

When asked about Ronan Keating, who was the main star of Walsh’s successful boyband Boyzone, he says that Keating was a "little manufactured popstar who actually believed his own publicity". Yikes!

"Ronan thought he was George Michael... He said he didn't want to be a karaoke artist. Well that's what he is,” he says.

They also touch on the death of Keating’s fellow member Stephen Gately, and the article Jan Moir wrote about it, in which she said the circumstances seemed a little sleazy.

Walsh says that Moir's comments were "her opinion", adding: "I think she's a good journalist. I've met her since, and I like her."

He keeps us guessing on his sexuality, too. When asked, he replies: "Don't go there... Your private life is your private life."
