Get Ready for Royal Ascot

Five days of top racing (not to mention some fabulous fashion) as Royal Ascot runs from today until Saturday.

The World Cup may have wowed us last night, but today marks another fine sporting even as Royal Ascot kicks off. Britain’s most valuable race meeting, Royal Ascot attracts many of the world’s finest racehorses to compete for more than £7.3m in prize money.

Over the five days 500 horses will partake in 30 races, and though it is a decidedly British affair, there will be some stiff competition from international breeders. In fact, famed Jockey Frankie Dettori will make a triumphant return (after missing last years event due to a shoulder injury) on Aussie speedster Redkirk Warrior, who will be ridden by in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Saturday).

But Royal Ascot is not just about the horses, as all eyes will also be on the 300,000 guests who are expected to turn up in their finery. The Royal Enclosure has a strict dress code which stipulates that ladies dresses must be below the knee and that hats or fascinators must be worn, while gents are required to don morning suit, waistcoat and tie (bow ties and cravats are banned), black or grey top hat and black shoes, worn with socks.

As the regal name would suggest, Her Majesty will be in attendance along with other prominent royals including the recently appointed Duchess of Sussex.
