First Look: Tulip Fever Red Band Trailer

Deemed too scandalous for telly, Alicia Vikander and Dane DeHaan’s elicit romance is finally allowed to bloom.

Fans of Nineties flick Shakespeare in Love will delight in the new trailer for Tulip Fever, which was penned by the same Oscar-winning screenwriter, Tom Stoppard, and deals with similar themes of forbidden romance.

Based on Deborah Moggach’s novel of the same name, the film is set in 17th century Amsterdam, and tells the tale of a beautiful orphan (Alicia Vikander) who is forced to marry a much-older aristocrat (Christoph Waltz). When the young woman’s husband asks a struggling artist (Dane Dehaan) to paint his wife, things don’t go to plan as the pair fall hopelessly in love, and their only hope of being together is to invest in the risky tulip market.

In the lusty trailer which was deemed too racy to air on television, we finally see the two handsome leads in the throes of passion as they plot their escape. But will their dangerous gamble pay off? We’ll have to wait till September 1, when the film hits cinemas, to find out.
