Oxford Uni tops Global Rankings

For the first time ever, the UK have a university at the very top of the global rankings…

Oxford university has been ranked the best university in the world, signalling the first time that a UK institution has topped the rankings. Oxford pushes the five-time table-topper, the California Institute of Technology, into second place.

Cambridge and Imperial College London joined Oxford in the top ten, at fourth and eighth respectively, and a further 85 UK universities were placed in the top 800 – meaning the UK is second only to the US when it comes to the top 800 educational institutions in the world.

“Britain has long been home to some of the best universities in the world,” said education secretary Justine Greening. “It’s fantastic to see a UK university top these world rankings for the first time.”

“We want to see this success continue and provide real opportunities for students up and down the country,” she continued. “That is why we are reforming higher education to make sure it delivers the quality teaching and skills that students and employers expect.”
