Forbes’ Highest Earning Celebrity Of The Year Surprises Everyone

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs goes from 22 to number one in the money charts.

He may be a rap legend, but Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs shocked everyone this week when he was announced as the highest celebrity earner of the year. Proving that massive exposure doesn’t mean massive bucks, the elusive Nineties star earned a whopping $130m (£102m).

His success is down to his recent US tour, a marketing deal with a vodka company and selling one third of his Sean John clothing line.

While the rest of the top five wasn’t quite as shocking, with Beyonce ($105m / £82.7m), JK Rowling ($95m/£74.8m), Drake ($94m/£74.06m) and Cristiano Ronaldo ($93m/£73.2m) claiming the other spots, there are still some anomalies throughout the full list.

It reveals that women comprise just 16% of the highest earners - although Queen Bey’s music mogul hubby Jay-Z only charted at 55 – and last year’s number one, Taylor swift, plummeted to 49.

No doubt Diddy will be out partying like it’s 1999 on the news of his spectacular ascent. Though if the lyrics to his hit collaboration with The Notorious B.I.G from the same era are to be believed, then the more money we come across, the more problems we see.
