Sue Perkins Had Rude Gags Edited Out By Beeb

TV Bafta’s host delighted fans but ruffled BBC feathers with multiple swears.

Great British Bake Off star Sue Perkins hosted the ceremony for the first time on Sunday (14 May) night, and pulled a few punches along the way.

Having been warned in advance along with other guests not to mention the upcoming general election as their “speech may be cut,” the 47-year-old made repeated political gags including one during her opening speech, where she quipped: “Whatever happens I promise to provide you a strong and stable Baftas.”

She also forced producers to cut an entire segment out of their TV coverage which was on a one-hour delay, after the comedienne told the stunned crowd: “I live for live. Give me a seven second delay and I will use it, you blistering c***faced f*** trumpets.”

Her finest moment however, was probably during her opening speech at London’s Royal festival hall when she decided to take a swipe at the GBBO controversy via another BBC hit show, The Replacement, about an architect who has to fight for her job after going on maternity leave.

Sue began: “How great was The Replacement everybody? A show about how stressful it can be when someone takes over your job… I mean, I really couldn’t relate to it!” She then went on to wish the new hosts Sandi Toksvig, Prue Leith and Noel Fielding the best of luck before adding: “Let’s crack on before someone sells-off the format to Channel 4!”
