Peter Rabbit Comes To Life On Coin

Royal Mint announces new set of 50 pence pieces which will feature colour Peter Rabbit and friends.

Last year a series of Peter Rabbit-themed coins were struck to mark the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter’s birth, and sold out almost immediately. So, you can expect fans to go wild for the coloured set of coins which were announced by Royal Mint today.

The designs commemorate Beatrix Potter’s books and the hand-painted style of the original illustrations, vividly showing colour on Peter’s blue jacket, Tom Kitten’s blue pyjamas, Benjamin Bunny’s green hat and Jeremy Fisher’s red coat.

Anne Jessopp, of The Royal Mint, said: “While we always knew that the Beatrix Potter characters would be a huge hit, the enormous popularity of the 2016 set exceeded everyone’s expectations.

“The coins sold out almost instantly as people raced to collect a complete set of the four friends. We’re delighted to be able to present another group of her exquisite characters, giving them a new lease of life on our specially-designed coloured commemorative coins.”

The pieces were created by Emma Noble and a total of 30,000 of the coloured coins will be released as collectables, according to Sky News.

There will also be an unlimited number of plain versions of the coin made available.
