Ed Sheeran’s Sartorial Transformation

How the flame-haired balladeer went from GQ’s Worst dressed celebrity to it's March cover star...

In 2012 they said they couldn’t "imagine anyone wanting to steal" his style, but GQ appear to have done an about turn on Ed Sheeran, making him their latest cover star. Over the years, he has become as well known for his laid back style – and love of the ubiquitous hoodie – as he has for radio-friendly, monster chart hits, but the 25-year-old is a picture of sophistication as he graces the March issue of the illustrious men’s mag.

Ed seemed to take his ‘Worst Dressed’ ranking well, tweeting at the time: ‘named no.1 worst dressed male in GQ, glad they noticed.’ Before joking that he ‘did wear a Burberry suit once.’ But in his bid to become the biggest male popstar in the world this year, the A Team singer may need to up his style stake, and outfits for the cover shoot included a Private White VC wool coat, a Sunspel rollneck and a Tom Ford tuxedo.

In the accompanying interview he reveals his plans to sell more records than Adele, and discusses the healthy competition that exists between him and best buddy, Taylor Swift. "She wants to be the biggest female artist in the world and I want to be the biggest male artist in the world," he says. And with his album ÷ [Divide] set to be released in March and a 2017 world tour that will kick-off later that month, it’s looking ever likely he will fulfil that ambition.
