First Look: KENZO x H&M Collection

The highly anticipated collaboration between the uber-cool fashion house and affordable high street brand is almost here, and as expected, is completely bonkers…

High-waisted tiger-print leggings, elbow-length embossed leather gloves and an oversized leather jacket with pink faux-shearling lining are just some of the delights that have been unveiled in the KENZO x H&M collection.

Staying true to their hyper-modern and technicolour trademark style, designers Carol Lim and Humberto Leon eschewed fashion models and instead chose young artists and activists to represent the vibrant collection, including Amy Sall, an activist and founder of SUNU: Journal of African Affairs, Critical Thought + Aesthetics; artist and poet Juliana Huxtable; musician Oko Ebombo; and make-up artist Isamaya Ffrench, who is also a member of the London-based collective Theo Adams Company.

The collaboration is the latest in what has become a fashion phenomenon that began in 2004 when Karl Lagerfeld announced he would be working with the high street retailer. The collection sold out in minutes, setting a precedent for all future collaborations which would include Marni, Versace, Comme des Garcons, Lanvin and most recently, Balmain.

When news of the collaboration was confirmed in May, Lim and Leon said that they wanted to "think big, push the boundaries and bring the new energy of Kenzo to everyone around the world."

The collection will be available in over 250 selected H&M stores worldwide, as well as online, from November 3.
