First look at Laverne Cox in Rocky Horror remake

Orange is The New Black star Laverne Cox plays Dr Frank-N-Furter in FOX re-imagining of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

‘It’s not easy having a good time!’ whispers Laverne Cox to camera in a flawless, clipped British accent. The scene is part of a 30-second preview giving fans a first look of FOX’s remake of the cult musical classic. For the Orange is the New Black star it is a dream come true and she is eager to do justice to the role that Tim Curry made famous saying her take on the wacky, cross-dressing scientist will be ‘the lovechild of Grace Jones and David Bowie.’

The revamped film will make its debut in October and with the original executive producer Lou Adler returning fans are hopeful it will do justice to the 1975 classic. Susan Sarandon’s character will be played by Eye Candy’s Victoria Justice and deadpan handyman Riff Raff by Penny Dreadful star Reeve Carney. Christina Milian and Adam Lambert will aslso star but Cox, who makes her singing debut, is expected to be the star of the show.

'I think we mix up the look more than they did in the original. It's way more elaborate and couture,' she told EW last week.

The original film has been played in cinemas longer than any other film earning more than $140.2m. On initial release it was panned by critics but soon become a cult phenomenon when audiences took to dressing as the beloved characters and singing along to the action. As the new version will be on the small screen it will lack this audience participation but could start a trend of Rocky Horror home-screening parties. ‘Let’s do the time warp again….’
