Surfer's Path magazine has suggested that fans of the sport get down to the Museum of British Surfing this summer.

Surfer's Path magazine has suggested that fans of the sport get down to the Museum of British Surfing this summer.

The publication is running An Art History of British Surfing History exhibition from June 12th to September 19th at the site in Northumberland.

The display looks at how art and surfing have been bonded together over hundreds of years, working their way into the British consciousness along the way.

It contains everything from early sketches of surfers from the 18th century to fluorescent paintings, posters and filmography from the 1980s.

Put together by north Devon-based charity the Museum of British Surfing, the display grants an insight into a sport that has imagery described as a "marketing person's dream".

Museum founder Peter Robinson said: "It is something that has always captured the public's imagination, probably because of its innovation, free flowing form and laid back lifestyle."

Visitors can expect to see decades-old boards, as well as a range of memorabilia and an eco surfboard designed by Conrad Shawcross.

Meanwhile, Surfer's Path has drawn readers' attention to a Californian exhibition looking at the work of pioneer Robert Wilson Simmons.
