Team Europe win Ryder Cup

Team Europe won the Ryder Cup, beating Team America who were favourites.

Team Europe win Ryder Cup

Hooray! Team Europe won the Ryder Cup after all, despite the American team being the favourites. We told you on Friday how Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy had got off to a good start, but America seemed likely to win until yesterday…

We’re sure those of you with a Today’s Golfer magazine subscription were sitting on the edge of your seat yesterday watching it all unfold. America needed just 4 ½ points to win, but after winning 8 out of the 12 matches, Europe pipped them to the post with a very close 13 ½ points for America to 14 ½ points to Europe.

Martin Kaymer scored the 14th point with a five-foot putt on the 18th green and after a bogey from Tiger Woods, Jose Maria Olazabal’s game ended in victory.

McIlroy very nearly missed his game after getting mixed up with times and racing over to the course just 10 minutes before he was due to play.

We’re not having a bad year sport-wise and this is yet another win to celebrate. Well done Team Europe!
