Padraig Harrington & Paul Lawrie on how to be top of the game

Golf legends Padraig Harrington & Paul Lawrie swap tips and compare notes.

If you have a Golf Monthly magazine subscription then we’re sure that you’re always looking for ways to improve your technique and give the pros a run for their money, so who could be better to take advice from than two European Tour legends – Padraig Harrington and Paul Lawrie. They have a combined experience of over 40 years so they definitely know their stuff!

It’s well-known that the mechanics of your swing is one of the most important things to think about when it comes to golf. Harrington says: “There’s no need to know anybody else’s swing but your own. It’s a balance, you’re never going to know everything and you shouldn’t worry if you don’t know the answers to some of the questions.”

Looking back at his younger years, Lawrie says he would do a few things differently. “I wish I’d hit less balls,” he says. “I hit too many. That is the biggest thing I try to pass on in the foundation that I sponsor. If I could have my time again I would hit almost no balls on the Wednesday of a tournament.”

There are parts of each other’s game that they’d both like to take. “I would love his short game. I think it’s better than mine,” says Lawrie.

Harrington adds: “Paul is a ballsy player. It doesn’t matter what the situation is, he’s going to hit a certain shot.”
