The team at Women's Running magazine have offered some great tips for you to follow so you can continue running even when it's freezing cold.

Amber Spencer, advertising sales executive at the mag, said the gym is the best way to exercise during the winter.

"To keep myself motivated I tend to do more upbeat classes like spinning and body combat and often arrange to go with friends," she said.

Online editor Rhalou Allerhand also tends to opt for classes at the gym to keep fit.

She said: "I make fitness a priority and an integral part of my life, so I diarise in advance what classes or training I intend to do like I would an important business meeting, which makes me more likely to stick to my routine."

A new study by the University of Pittsburgh in the US has found walking for five miles a week can slow the development of Alzheimer's disease.
