Former British and Irish Lions player Brian Moore wins coveted book award

Rugby World subscription holders can read how former British and Irish Lions player Brian Moore has won a coveted book award.

Sports fans with a Rugby World magazine subscription can read how former British and Irish Lion Brian Moore has won the William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award.

The player, who was known as 'Pitbull' back in the day, was given the accolade for his penned life story - Beware of the Dog: Rugby's Hardman Reveals All.

Moore divulges all about his glittering career in the rugby world, as well as the sexual abuse he suffered as a child, reports Rugby World magazine.

"It's a uniquely engaging book and a fascinating exploration of what lies beneath the tough exterior of one of England's greatest rugby players," said Graham Sharpe, co-founder of the prize, reports the mag.

Moore is the 22nd winner of the award, and he picked up his prize - a £22,000 cheque, at Europe's biggest bookstore, Waterstone's Piccadilly.

The former player is now a TV pundit and he has his own column in the Daily Telegraph.

Last year, he was nominated for the sports journalist of the year accolade for the British Press Awards.
