Classic Motorcycle looks at Norton Commando 850 Mk III

The Norton Commando 850 Mk III has been put through its paces in the latest edition of The Classic Motorcycle magazine.

Categories: The Classic Motorcycle magazine subscription

The Classic Motorcycle magazine subscription holders will this month be able to read a feature on the Norton Commando 850 Mk III.

The mighty machine was one of the last models built by Norton Villiers Triumph before its demise.

Having already slipped into receivership, the firm's choice to produce the Interstate Norton Commando 850 Mk III model meant it left a legacy for fans of classic bikes to enjoy.

According to the magazine the powered two-wheeler rides steadily at 90mph and is also comfortable travelling at 70mph, where it turns over at 3,900rpm.

Its twin 828cc Amal Concentrics engine helps it achieve 50mpg at this speed, meaning that riders can clock up around 200 miles before having to search for a petrol station.

While the engine shakes at lower revs, the "Commando is transformed into one of the smoothest motorcycles in the world" at higher revs.

The latest edition of the magazine also features the Triumph Bonneville, the Matchless G3 AFS and the Cavani DKW RT125.
