People with a sense of adventure and a National Geographic magazine subscription can read all about Andrew Skurka's gruelling 176-day trek around Alaska.

People with a National Geographic magazine subscription can read about the highs and lows of Andrew Skurka's trek around Alaska.

Over 176 days the adventurer travelled 4,679 miles over 176 days through eight national parks, a dozen mountain ranges and lengths of Yukon territory to become the first person to circle Alaska.

During his epic journey the 29-year-old travelled by foot, ski and raft, travelling around 25 miles daily.

The feature details the enormity of the challenge and how he went from demoralized on days when he could only manage 12 miles due to terrible conditions to humbled by some of the magnificent sights he saw on the trek.

"Given how far he'd travelled and how difficult the journey had been, there was little doubt that Andrew Skurka had discovered something new," the writer stated.

As well as circumnavigating Alaska, Andrew Skurka has undertaken a number of other challenges, including the Great Western Loop.

He was named National Geographic's Adventurer of the Year in 2007.
