After sad news of Gary Speed’s death, footballers pay their respects

The football world has come together in tribute of Wales manager Gary Speed who passed away over the weekend.

It’s been a sad couple of days for football fans after news of the untimely death of ex-footballer and Wales manager Gary Speed was announced over the weekend.

Speed was found dead in his home early on Sunday morning and the news quickly broke out in the media. Messages of support for his friends and family were made by fans all over the country and those who knew him spoke of their shock on hearing the news.

No doubt those of you with World Soccer magazine subscriptions will have already seen teams such as Arsenal, Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff hold a minute’s silence during matches over the last few days, as a sign of respect for the late sportsman.

With the negative press that both footballers and their fans often receive, it’s good to see that at times like these they can all pull together for one of their own - regardless of which team or country they play for.

Football writer Brian Glanville paid tribute to Speed on the World Soccer magazine blog yesterday, as well as his usual round-up of the latest football news, such as commentary on the latest European fixtures as well as UK teams.

If you are football mad, or know someone who is, order a World Soccer magazine subscription today. They’ll be the first to hear all of the latest football news, which will be hopefully be a little less sad from now on.
