Slimming World magazine has suggested that part of the reason why women have issues with their weight is down to the media.

A recent study by Brigham Young University showed that females have underlying concerns about how much they weigh.

Published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences, the research found that women react negatively to images of fat females during brain tests.

However, when the same exam was done on men, this response did not occur.

According to Slimming World head of nutrition Dr Jacquie Lavin, females are "constantly bombarded with images of the perfect body shape".

Furthermore, she explained that the majority of women have had negative comments about their weight.

The doctor explained that many are chasing a figure they might not be able to achieve and that it might be better to accept that fact.

"We're all different shapes and sizes, and that's a good thing, as long as we're healthy," Dr Lavin added.
