Travel & Leisure Magazine subscription holders reading the latest edition will be able to take a peek at 11 hotels that are great bases for adventure holidays.
Number one on the list is the Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort, which is decorated with trade route artefacts from local souks and set in a sheltered wadi in the desert.
Another desert hotel featured is the Amangiri from Adrian Zecha, which is located on a 600m plot of desert land in southern Utah, US.
Described as one for the "less-is-more crowd", the 34-suite hotel is decorated with timber and rawhide furnishings and built from polished concrete.
From US desert to Swiss mountain ranges, the magazine also looks at Rocksresort - a Valais quartzite-faced building hewn into the rock and featuring a myriad of shops, bars and restaurants to service the 102 condos.
It also helps that the hotel is close to the famous ski and snowboard resort of Laax.
