The Royal Variety Performance – the lowdown

What happened at last night's 100th Royal Variety Performance?

The Royal Variety Performance celebrated its 100th year last night at the Royal Albert Hall. Of course, The Queen was in attendance, but she was in pretty good company as you’ve no doubt read in The Daily Mail newspaper today.

Hosting the show was David Walliams, who was dressed as James Bond and even made his entrance on a jet pack.

The performances began with Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins singing the National Anthem.

Other British stars performing included Girls Aloud who performed The Promise, One Direction who sang their new number one single Little Things and Britain’s Got Talent winners Ashleigh and Pudsey.

Of course, it wouldn’t be right without a little bit of comedy and the biggest laughs came from David Walliams and Alan Carr’s Ashleigh and Pudsey spoof, which saw Carr dress as the canine, whilst Walliams jumped into his arms.

International stars who performed include Kylie Minogue, Neil Diamond, Alicia Keys and Andrea Bocelli.

As it was the show’s 100th year, Jimmy Tarbuck introduced a number of clips from previous years including performances from himself, Peter Kay and the cast of Only Fools and Horses.

Only the finest entertainment for our Queen after all!
