Readers of The Oldie magazine have discovered the recipients of the publication's travel awards.

Category: The Oldie magazine subscription

The Oldie magazine subscription holders will have last month learned who the winners of the publication's annual travel awards were.

A ceremony held in November at the East India Club was presided over by travel editor Rosie Boycott, who presented numerous gongs.

It may have amused some to see Heathrow's Terminal 5 given a prize after such a disastrous start to its life, albeit the site scooped the Oldie Travel Award for Worst Airport Design.

The Solar Gorilla portable solar charger won the Don't Leave Home Without It honour, while Cornwall's Port Eliot can now claim to host the best festival.

Best hostel went to London's The Generator Hostel, while Smart City Hostel in Edinburgh was a runner up.

Meanwhile, the Oldie Travel Award for Best Travel Website went to resorthoppa.com, which claims to be the leading provider of low-cost transfers around the world.

"Our aim is to provide the highest level of service at great value-for-money prices," the website states.
