Steve Jobs resigns from Apple for health reasons

It has been announced that Steve Jobs has resigned as Apple CEO and will be replaed by Tim Cook.

So the big news in the technology world at the moment – which no doubt you Wired magazine subscribers will be well aware of – is Steve Jobs’ resignation as CEO at Apple. The 56-year-old had been off work since January, and has been battling pancreatic cancer for a number of years.

It was announced this morning that Jobs would be replaced by chief operating officer, Tim Cook. The co-founder won’t be left out of the Apple loop however, as he will now be chairman of the company.

As well as the obvious jobless Jobs puns we could come up with (which no doubt the tabloids will love), is it childish that we’d kind of hoped he did it with a note that just said iQuit?

But no such luck; according to the BBC, Jobs wrote a letter to the board of Apple saying: "I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's chief executive, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come. I hereby resign as chief executive of Apple.

"I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role. I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you."

The July 2011 issue of Wired magazine featured what they called the “Steve Jobs MBA”, which was their article entitled “37 lessons you can learn from Steve Jobs”. As one of the most successful men in the business, they felt that analysing his career history would help those wanting to follow in his footsteps.
