Sofie Gråbøl is this month’s Psychologies cover star

Sofie Gråbøl talks to Psychologies magazine about life in The Killing.

Earlier this year, the whole nation was gripped by Danish thriller series, The Killing. After a hugely successful run in Denmark back in 2001, it was commissioned by BBC Four to be played in spring 2011 and after rave reviews.

The first series focuses on solving the murder of a 19 year-old, with enough plot twists and red herrings to keep even the smartest of us guessing. The show managed to attract even more viewers than Mad Men – admittedly, the characters don’t look quite as suave, but detective Sarah Lund’s infamous Faroese jumper has made the item a bit of a must-have.

So as the Danish actress of the hour, Psychologies magazine caught up with Sofie Gråbøl to ask the woman behind the character some probing questions.

Those of you with Psychologies magazine subscriptions have probably already read the interview, in which the actress discusses her upbringing by her single mother, her journey into acting and her day-to-day life.

And of course, she talks about playing Denmark’s most famous female detective. When talking about not wanting to carry on for a second series, she says, “I realised I hadn’t finished with Sarah Lund. She is still fascinating to me. She’s a dark person and I usually play parts with lots more emotion.”

She discussed Lund being non-communicative in the second series: “I would see people on the street and they would say, ‘How nice to see you smiling, Sofie – when I see you on the TV you are always sulking.’ But I wasn’t sulking; I was concentrating. If Lund had been a man, they wouldn’t have mentioned sulking, would they?”

The October issue also features on how to wake up feeling good, a chat with David Baddiel and a round-up of Psychologies magazines’ Positive Beauty Awards.
