Sharon Osbourne is to swap X Factor for cuddles

Sharon Osbourne talks to Woman & Home about her marriage, surgery and why she will leave the X Factor next year.

It’s been a tough year for Mrs O – not only did she undergo a double mastectomy, but her son Jack was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and husband Ozzy went back to drink and drugs after years of sobriety. It’s a good job Sharon Osbourne is a tough cookie!

She’s on the cover of Woman & Home this month, promoting The X Factor, which she has just returned to after a six year break.

Speaking about her mastectomy, she says that the reconstructive surgery didn’t go too brilliant, but she’s not having any more cosmetic procedures.

"One was misshapen, itching like mad and drooping,” she tells the magazine. “There certainly won't be any more cosmetic surgery. When you witness your child's body having to fight something potentially life-threatening, putting your own through the mill for the purposes of vanity seems beyond idiotic."

It hasn’t all been doom and gloom for her, however. Jack’s daughter Pearl was born earlier this year and whilst Sharon loves judging on the X Factor, she says this will definitely be her last year so that she can spend more time with her family.

She talks about a time in June when she woke up in the middle of the night. "My heart was thumping, my neck clammy with sweat, and I hadn't the faintest clue where I was. Eventually, I worked out I was in Birmingham for The X Factor. I skyped Jack and there was gorgeous Pearl, blinking at the screen. I decided there and then that this is the last X Factor I will do. I love doing it, but I want to be with my grandchild. Ozzy said to me the other day that it feels like we're on the last ten minutes of our lives. He's right. And I'm going to stop enabling, stop shopping, slow down on work, endlessly cuddle my grandchild and make the most of every last second of it."
