Men's Health magazine guide to losing fat through mind power

If you're looking to shift some pounds, you could benefit from a Men's Health magazine subscription.

If you've got a Men's Health magazine subscription and you're looking to shift a few pounds, it features a guide which could well help you out.

The publication claims you can actually burn fat by using mind power - a somewhat tongue-in-cheek suggestion, perhaps.

Men's Health magazine first suggests you should 'hypnotise the hobnobs'. Psychologists from the University of Birmingham found thinking about what you consumed earlier in the day reduces your calorie intake.

How? Well, it's basically because you'll panic slightly about what you've already eaten, so you won't indulge in that mid-afternoon snack.

Making sure your meals have themes could help you lose some weight as well. Men's Health magazine reports Dr David Katz, a food scientist, said: "Mixed flavours stimulate the brain's hypothalamus to produce more neuropeptide Y, a hormone that increases appetite."

Switch off the auto-pilot and you could shift some pounds, according to Men's Health magazine.

"Try new ways of doing things to break the habit machine that makes people fat," claims Ben Fletcher, professor of psychology at the University of Hertfordshire.

Or, you could just go for that old-fashioned weight-loss method, the humble diet. If you're a yo-yo dieter, fear not; boffins at Maastricht University have found a protein which causes some people to pile the pounds back on post-diet.
