Ensuring that the right food is eaten at the correct times around exercise is important for individuals keen on building muscle, readers of Men's Health magazine have been told.

The magazine has spoken to six personal trainers to come up with a list of ten mistakes often made by individuals when training.

Alongside failing to follow an established workout plan to ensure that all muscle groups are being worked, the trainers commented on the lack of dedication people put in to their eating habits.

Darren Langston told the publication: "Without addressing your nutritional approach, and tweaking it to meet your goals, you are unlikely to ever make much progress in changing your physique.

"Sure, you might get stronger and a little bigger, but you're never going to look good."

Other common training mistakes that are made include lifting weights with poor form, placing too much focus on the top half of the body and a failure of those working out to know their limits.

Meanwhile, alongside eating the right foods to build muscle, such as proteins with fibrous carbohydrates, individuals also must ensure they eat enough calories on a daily basis.
