Lonely Planet Traveller’s 10 Easy Trips

Check Out Lonely Planet Traveller's 10 Easy Trips to take in the winter!

Bored of British winter already? We are and technically we’re still only in autumn... Luckily Lonely Planet seem to be feeling the same way as they have put together a list of 10 Easy Trips to take in the winter.

First up is a winter walk in Wiltshire – Traveller knows how to put a great spin in a crisp, winter’s day. You can check out the Winter Warmer tour in southern Wiltshire, it takes 2-3 days, depending how fast you walk we guess.

Second is the Christmas market in a little town called Colmar in Alsace. Christmas market – self explanatory. Third comes Val d’Orcia in Tuscany, doesn’t have the heat it offers in the summer but there’s still great wine and breathtaking scenery.

Fourth is New York. Everyone knows New York is amazing at Christmas, but they also have awesome Jewish celebrations for Hannukah. If you want to embrace to cold, head over to their number five – Bovec in Slovenia. There’s beautiful snow, great skiing and views that rival Italy, but at half the price tag.

Coming in at number six is the Atlantic Ocean coast in Gambia – if you’ve ever wanted to take a dip in warm seas, here’s the place to do it. There are also nature reserves and forest parks to visit, what’s not to love?

Stay in the UK for number seven, eight and nine. Head to Birmingham, especially if you’re a fan of Hobbits. It was in Moseley that Tolkien was inspired to create the Shire – so go off and explore the area. Or if you prefer the Cotswolds, because at there’s a beautiful 16th century hotel that is perfect for anyone who wants to get away from it all. There’s always the capital too! The Natural History Museum have a new display on which sums up 4.5 billion years in just 22 objects.

And then there’s number 10, the ultimate winter trip – the Northern Lights. Whilst there’s never any guarantee they’ll play nice and show up when you want them to, your chances are much higher if you head to Abisko National Park in Sweden.

So there you have it, Lonely Planet Traveller’s 10 Easy Trips. If that hasn’t inspired you, we don’t know what will.
