Lonely Planet magazine recommends The Gambia

The Gambia has been touted as an easy travel destination by Lonely Planet magazine.

Category: Lonely Planet magazine subscription

Lonely Planet magazine subscription holders reading the latest edition will be able to get tips on heading to a west African nation that offers "exquisite beaches".

The publication has listed the Kombos in The Gambia in its Ten Easy Trips You Can Book Now feature.

It explained that Brits can fly to Banjul from London Gatwick from just £273 return in winter and a taxi from the airport to the coastal towns of Bakau, Fajara, Koto or Kololo - otherwise known as the Kombos - should cost just £10.

Those with a taste for adventure and exploration can sail inland on a river excursion with Hidden Gambia.

The magazine revealed that the company offers 14-night tours on fibreglass boats and wooden, motorised pirogues from £725.

Holidaymakers who would rather relax on the beach could stay at the Safari Garden, which is a locally-run eco-hotel in Fajara.

The Gambia is located south of Senegal and north of Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
