As one of the most talented singers in the UK, as well as being more than just marginally attractive, it’s no wonder that Katherine Jenkins captures a lot of attention from both the media and the general public. Throw a new job as mentor on Popstar to Operastar and a celebrity boyfriend – a fellow Welsh-man, no less – into the mix and you have a recipe for classic gossip rag and tabloid fodder.
So why is it that she isn’t always being papped with Gethin Jones in the same way that Charlotte Church was with Gavin Henson?
Those of you with Good Housekeeping magazine subscriptions will know, as Katherine Jenkins opens up about life in the public eye, managing her busy schedule and planning her wedding.
It’s clear that Jenkins doesn’t invite media attention in, she talks about wanting a little normality in her life, without being constantly photographed.
“I didn’t ever want to be a famous celebrity, I wanted to be a singer. I could leave the fame side of it. I didn’t ever imagine that I’d get a six-album deal, but I got into this and it’s a learning curve: nobody teaches you,” she says.
And despite being engaged to a fellow celeb, Jenkins makes it clear that it’s not for attention. “We are private in what we do; we don’t go out with each other because we want publicity. We’re together because we want to be. It’s hard trying to get people to understand that.”
As well as the interview with Katherine Jenkins, the November issue of Good Housekeeping magazine is filled with interesting features on 13 of the healthiest restaurant menu choices in the UK, the annual Christmas gift guide and why we can’t wait for the clock to hit wine o’clock.
