Judi Dench tells Good Housekeeping why she doesn’t want to be the nation’s sweetheart

Dame Judi Dench, one of the UK's best-loved actresses talks to Good Housekeeping magazine about her life as an actress and mother.

Dame Judi Dench is one of the finest (and undoubtedly most popular) actresses that Great Britain has to offer, so when we get a chance to read about her in one of our favourite magazines – yep, the latest issue of our Good Housekeeping magazine subscription found its way to our doorstep this morning – we just can’t resist.

With a list of acting roles longer than most people’s legs, let alone arms, and a Damehood to boot, she is one of most respected actresses in the world – up there with the likes of Dame Helen Mirren and Julie Walters, it’s no surprise that we’re so proud of her. But whatever you do, do not call her a national treasure...

“I hate being called a national treasure because it sounds so dusty. A national treasure is something that never changes and is sitting there behind glass,” she says. But she’s far from sitting still! Despite now being in her 70s, the actress shows no signs of slowing down.

Having just appeared in the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie, her latest film – literary fave Jane Eyre - is released on the 9th September and she’s currently got no less than 6 more in the pipeline. That’s pretty impressive.

If you want to know more about Dame Judi’s life as an actress, then be sure to check out the October issue of Good Housekeeping magazine.
