Judi Dench on Steve Coogan and keeping busy

Judi Dench chats to Reader's Digest about her new film Philomena, with Steve Coogan.

Judi Dench is a national treasure, no doubt about that. She’s an incredibly talented actress and she draws you into any film she’s in, such as her latest film Philomena, which she stars in with Steve Coogan.

Speaking to Reader’s Digest in their November issue, she says that Coogan kept her thoroughly entertained during filming. “He’s hysterical,” she tells the magazine. “He made me laugh every day and, of course, when you’re playing something that requires a lot of tension, it’s glorious to be able to just have a laugh suddenly. He’s a terribly clever man; I don’t need to tell you that. I asked him to take off Bruce Forsyth, he did; and he does sean Connery young and old. He never stopped. He just made me howl. How wonderful is that.”

Despite being 78 years old, she’s showing no signs of slowing down. “I like to be busy; I love the work. I’m in the two per cent of the population doing the job they want to. I think that’s incredibly lucky.”
