Jorge Mario Bergoglio elected as Pope Francis

Argentinian Jorge Mario Bergoglio has been elected as the new Pope.

If you have a subscription to The Tablet, then we’re sure you are probably well aware that a new Pope has been elected. In fact, if you’re anything like us you would have switched over to BBC News last night to get a sneak peek of Jorge Mario Bergoglio standing at the balcony overlooking St. Peter’s Square in Rome.

The 76-year old Argentinian makes history as the first Jesuit, as well as the first Latin American Pope. His formal title will be Pope Francis and he replaces Benedict XVI who resigned last month after feeling he was too old to commit to the job.
