Jay-Z and Beyoncé top Vanity Fair power list

Beyoncé and Jay-Z top Vanity Fair's 'Powers-That-Be' list!

Who run the world? Beyoncé may say girls, but Vanity Fair say Beyoncé and hubby Jay-Z.

The magazine have put together a list of what they call “The New Establishment”, i.e. the world’s biggest movers and shakers. They have split the list into The Disrupters, which names 50 people, and The Powers That Be, which names 25.

The Carters fall into the latter category, beating the likes of Rupert Murdoch, Ben Affleck and even New York’s mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Despite now being one of the richest men in the world. Jay-Z remembers times when he was far from it, though the experiences helped him in later life.

"I know about budgets. I was a drug dealer," he tells Vanity Fair, Lisa Robinson. "To be in a drug deal, you need to know what you can spend, what you need to re-up. Or if you want to start some sort of barbershop or car wash-those were the businesses back then. Things you can get in easily to get out of [that] life. At some point, you have to have an exit strategy, because your window is very small; you're going to get locked up or you're going to die."
