How to avoid World Cup fever

Esquire magazine has welcomed in the festival season, claiming it is a great way to avoid the World Cup madness.

Esquire readers may have noticed that some sort of sporting event is taking place in South Africa at the moment.

While some are happy to go World Cup daft, there are others who would rather bury their head in the sand and avoid the tournament and all its hype.

The magazine believes it has found the answer in the shape of festival season, which kicked off last weekend in the Isle of Wight.

Stars such as The Strokes, Jay-Z and Paul McCartney took to the stage throughout the weekend, but it was Biffy Clyro that most impressed the publication's Scottish correspondent as they played right through the England versus USA match.

One of the most enjoyable parts of the weekend was reportedly chilling in the Carling Local Bar - a pop-up pub designed to allow campers to enjoy good tunes and chilled beer into the early hours of the morning.

Other festivals taking place in the UK this summer include T in the Park, Leeds and Glastonbury.
