Fern Britton tells Good Housekeeping why she loves cycling

Fern Britton is feeling happy and healthy... and she tells Good Housekeeping it's all down to getting fit!

The discussion in the media over Fern Britton’s weight has been ongoing for years, especially since she had a gastric band fitted back in 2006 and lost 5 stone. However, in the February issue of Good Housekeeping it’s clear that she’s happy with her size now.

The presenter has been cycling to get her body fit, rather than focusing on being thin. “I am probably the weight that my body likes to be,” she tells the magazine. “It has been smaller, it has been bigger, but it is where it is. I love looking at the firmness in the ¬mirror – the firmness and the healthiness.”

Britton is a patron of the Genesis Research Trust and has been riding to raise both money and awareness for the charity. Not only is it for a great cause, but getting fit has made her feel much better about herself.

“All I know is that my life is ¬enriched by it all. It has given me courage – the courage to leave This Morning, the courage to write novels, the courage to keep having adventures. I have become almost fearless,” she says.

“When I started these rides to give something back, I didn’t realise they were going to give me so much too. I made up my mind to really live my life. I have lived it very well up until now, and I don’t want to drift off into ‘I don’t think I can stand it for very long’.”
