Title: Conde Nast Traveller

Explaining one of the reasons it loves the Russian city of St Petersburg, Conde Nast Traveller magazine has painted a beautiful mental picture of its sunsets.

The publication described how the light still bounces off the city's famous skyline until as late as 23:30 local time.

Even at 22:30, it can often seem like an English summer afternoon, save for the "slightly lengthening shadows and a strange milky quality to the light".

The travel magazine explained that the "white nights" of June and July are the best time to get to know and fall in love with St Petersburg.

It suggested that, despite being the least Russian city in the country, it is the easiest one in which to fall in love with the nation - perhaps because of its western feel.

The city is said to be prettier, less cumbersome, more welcoming and more cultured than Moscow.

According to the magazine, Moscow residents often refer to it as the country's biggest museum, while St Petersburg residents jokingly call the capital the nation's largest village.

Meanwhile, Conde Nast Traveller recently published a new guide to visiting Menorca.
